Tamil Nadu Free Sewing Machine Scheme 2023

The Tamil Nadu Free Sewing Machine scheme, initiated by the Government of Tamil Nadu, aims to empower beneficiaries by providing them with free sewing machines to create self-employment opportunities. The implementation of this scheme falls under the responsibility of the social welfare and nutritious meal programme department. As part of the scheme, cloth for free uniform supply is distributed to 32 cutting centres operated by the social welfare department. These centres are responsible for cutting the cloth, which is then passed on to the relevant tailoring societies for uniform stitching. Finally, the stitched uniforms are delivered to 413 AEEOs and 67 DEOs of the Education Department through these societies.

Under this scheme, the government offers 15,500 advanced sewing machines to members of women’s industrial cooperative societies. These machines come with a 10% government subsidy. Additionally, there are dedicated women tailoring training centers in Salem and Tiruvannamalai exclusively for tribal women. These centers provide training to 35 tribal women annually.
