Delhi Marriage Registration


If you are already married you can apply for the marriage registration certificate under two acts one is the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 and the other one is the Special Marriage Act, 1954. Where both the husband and wife belong to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, or Sikhs or where they have converted into any of these religions, the Hindu Marriage Act is applicable. Eligibility Conditions

  • Bride’s age is just more than 18 years and groom’s age is just more than 21 years
  • Two witnesses are required in the case of the Hindu Marriage Act
  • In case of registration under the Special Marriage Act, three witnesses are required

Apply Online for Delhi Marriage Registration

  • To apply online you have to go to the E-district Delhi website
  • If you are a new user of the portal then register yourself first
    • For registration click the new user” option from the citizen’s corner
  • Select the type of document either “Aadhar card” or “voter ID card”
  • Enter the number and captcha code, read the declaration and tick the checkbox
  • Click the continue option and complete the procedure
  • Log in with the site by clicking the registered user login” option
  • Click the “apply for services” option and search “registration of marriage”
  • Click the “apply” option and the form will appear on the screen
  • Fill in the info such as date of marriage, location, the bride and groom’s personal details, witness details, etc.
  • Upload the documents and submit the application form
  • Take a print out of the acknowledgment slip in which the date of appointment with the registrar is mentioned
  • Visit the registrar office along with witness and documents on the appointment date and time
  • Thereafter you will get your marriage certificate.

  • Attested Copy Of Divorce Decree/ Order In Case Of A Divorcee
  • Death Certificate of Spouse In Case Of Widow/ Widower.

Offline Apply for Delhi Marriage Registration

  • To apply offline you need to go to the official website
  • Go to the “Home and Community” section
  • Select Marriage Certificate and Registration” and a new page appears on the screen
  • Click for Application Form for registration of marriage under Hindu Marriage Act. Or Click here for Application Form for registration of marriage under Special Marriage Act.”
  • Download the application form and fill the details in it
  • Take the application form along with the documents to the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate
  • Your documents will be verified and a day is fixed and communicated to the parties for registration in case of the Hindu Marriage act or in case of the Special Marriage Act both parties are required to be present after submission of documents for issuance of public notice inviting objections. In case no objection the registration will be done after 30 days.

Download Marriage Registration Certificate

  • To download the certificate you have to go to the official website of e-District
  • On the home page, go to the Print/Download Certificate option
  • Then select the details Such as Department and Applied for
  • Thereafter provide the application/ certificate number and date of birth
  • Enter the captcha code that appears on the screen
  • Hit continue option
  • The certificate will display on the screen
  • Hit print option to take a print out

Track Your Application

  • To track application, you have to go to the official website of e-District
  • Then go to the track your application option
  • Then select the details Such as Department and Applied for
  • Thereafter provide the application number and applicant name
  • Enter the captcha code that appears on the screen
  • Hit search option and status will appear
