SSC Stenographer Syllabus 2024
SSC Stenographer General Intelligence & Reasoning
The assessment will feature both verbal and non-verbal questions. It will cover a range of topics including analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making, visual memory, and observational skills. Candidates can expect questions on concepts of relationships, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, as well as number series and non-verbal series.
Additionally, the test will incorporate items that evaluate candidates’ abilities to engage with abstract ideas and symbols, assess their relationships, perform arithmetical computations, and demonstrate other analytical skills.
SSC Stenographer General Awareness
The questions will be crafted to assess candidates’ general awareness of their surroundings and how this knowledge applies to society. They will also evaluate understanding of current events and everyday observations, particularly from a scientific perspective, which is expected of an educated individual.
Additionally, the test will cover topics related to India and its neighboring countries, focusing on areas such as sports, history, culture, geography, the economic landscape, general polity—including the Indian Constitution—and scientific research. Importantly, these questions will be designed in a way that does not necessitate specialized study in any particular field.
SSC Stenographer English Language & Comprehension
In addition to the testing of candidates’ understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, correct usage, etc. his/ her writing ability, would also be tested.

- The question paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice only.
- The questions will be set both in English & Hindi.
- There will be a negative marking equal to one-third of the marks allotted to the question for each wrong answer in Computer Based Examination.

Skill Test in Stenography
Candidates who qualify from the Computer Based Examination will need to participate in the Stenography Skill Test. During this test, candidates will receive a 10-minute dictation in either English or Hindi, based on their preference indicated in the online Application Form.
For the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ position, the dictation will be at a speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.), while for the Stenographer Grade ‘D’ position, it will be at 80 w.p.m. Candidates will be required to transcribe the dictation on a computer, with the following transcription time allocated:
