UPSC IFS Syllabus 2025 for CSE Prelims – General Studies (Paper I)

  • Current Affairs (Events) of national and international importance.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.

UPSC Prelims Syllabus – CSAT (Paper-II)

Penalty For Wrong Answers

  • There are four alternatives for the answers to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty.
  • If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given answers happens to be correct and there will be the same penalty as above for that question.
  • If a question is left blank i.e. no answer is given by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

UPSC Indian Forest Service Mains Syllabus

The standard of papers in General English and General Knowledge will be such as may be expected of a Science or Engineering graduate of an Indian University.

UPSC IFS Mains General English Syllabus – Paper 1

  • Candidates will be required to write an essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test their understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. Passages will usually be set for summary or precis.

UPSC IFS Mains General Knowledge Syllabus – Paper 2

  • General Knowledge includes knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their  scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject.
  • The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, the History of India, and the Geography of nature which the candidate should be able to answer without special study.

UPSC IFS Mains Optional Subjects

The question papers for the optional subjects will consist of a total of eight questions, with all questions carrying equal marks. Each paper will be organized into two sections, labeled Part A and Part B, with each part containing four questions. Candidates are required to attempt five questions from the total of eight. Each part will include one compulsory question, and candidates must select three additional questions from the remaining six. Importantly, at least one question must be chosen from each part. This ensures that candidates will attempt a minimum of two questions from each section: one compulsory question plus one additional question.

    (d) Chemistry and Chemical Engg.
    (e) Mathematics and Statistics.
    (f) Of the Engineering subjects viz. Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering—not more than one subject

Indian Forest Service Preliminary Exam Pattern

The General Studies (Paper-I) is the initial paper of the preliminary examination. Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination serves as a qualifying paper, with a minimum qualifying mark set at 33%. The questions in this paper will be of a multiple-choice, objective type. It is essential for candidates to appear in both papers of the Civil Services (Prelims) Examination for evaluation purposes. The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (objective type) is conducted to select candidates for the subsequent Main Examination.

UPSC IFS Mains Exam Pattern

The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an interview test. The written examination will consist of 6 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects.

The written examination consists of the following papers:

  • Paper I: General English – 300 Marks
  • Paper II: General Knowledge – 300 Marks
  • Papers III, IV, V, and VI – Any two subjects to be selected from the list of optional subjects. Each subject will have two papers  – 200 marks for each paper.

Note: Answer scripts of only those candidates who have obtained the minimum marks, as decided by the Commission for Paper II (General Knowledge), will be evaluated.

UPSC IFS Interview

Interview for Personality Test of such candidates as may be called by the Commission- and the Maximum Marks are 300.
