Khelo India Registration Form Online 2021: Khelo India Yojana is a national program for the development of sports in India. It was launched in the year 2018 by the then Sports Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in Delhi. This program has been launched to revive the sports culture in the country and to turn India into a sporting country.

Khelo India University Games 2021


The first edition of the Khelo India University Games 2020 under the “Khelo India” initiative happened in the state of Bhubaneswar. Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar hosted these games. KIUG games were conducted under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sports Authority of India in association with the Government of Odisha. Now officials are planning to conduct the 4th edition of KUG 2021 which will be hosted by Haryana in Panchkula.

In the past few years, India has shown tremendous growth in the field of sports which shows that India has great potential and future in sports. This potential needs to be showcased on a world platform so that these players can demonstrate their true talent and potential to the world. Taking into consideration the importance of sports and its development in India, Government launched a program called Khelo India.


Under this program, the selected players are provided annual assistance of Rs.5 lakhs for 8 years so that players can develop their sports skills and prepare themselves for national events.

Khelo India program aims to revive the culture and scope of sports in the country at the grass-roots level by creating opportunities for potential players and developing a strong framework for all the sports that are played in our country. It is an endeavor of the Government of India to identify talented athletes at the grassroots level and nurture it with the right training.

Under the Khelo India program, the High-Powered Committee identity the talented players from the country in various sports disciplines at different levels and provide them financial assistance of Rs.5 lakhs per annum for 8 years. With the help of this assistance, players can develop their sports and prepare themselves to represent India at international sports events. Selected athletes are also provided training at sports academies run by the government.  The scheme is not only confined to the selection of players but also to the selection and training of the coaches.

In order to search talent at grass-root level, government organize various talent hunt and sports events at state, regional and national level.

Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG)

Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) are an important part of this sports program. It was previously known as Khelo India School Games. This event is organised annually in the month of January. The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games was organised at Guwahati from 9th to 22nd January 2020. Now authorities will conduct the fourth edition in Haryana soon.

These are national-level multidisciplinary games which are organised for two categories viz. under-17 school students and under-21 college students. These games are conducted to encourage the youth of India to participate in sports activities. Also on the basis of performance in all the disciplines, the concerned committee selects the most talented 1000 players and provides them the financial aid.

At KIYG event players compete for medal in various disciplines which includes-

Athletics, Archery, Basketball, Boxing, Badminton, Cycling, Chess, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Handball, Judo, Karate, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Weightlifting, Volleyball, Wrestling, and Wushu.  

Three editions have already been completed successfully. The first khelo India games were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31st January 2018 at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. The second edition of KIYG was held at Pune, Maharashtra from 9th January to 20th January 2019. The schedule for the third edition i.e. KIYG 2020 was conducted recently in January 2020.

Khelo India Youth Games- 2021

The 4th edition will be hosted by Haryana in 2021. The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games-2020 was held from 18th January to 30th January 2020 at Guwahati. The upcoming games will be organized in partnership with the Indian School Games Federation of India (SGFI), the Olympic Association (IOA), and Assam as the host State.

In 2018 there were 16 disciplines and in 2018 there were 18 disciplines in which players were competing. The number of disciplines may increase this year.  This event is expected to witness huge no. of players and officials. More than 1000 athletes and officials are expected to participate in this event from various parts of the country.

Sports ministry has sanctioned an amount of Rs.7.87 crore as out-of-pocket allowance for the training of 2625 Khelo India athletes 99 Khelo India academies and other training centres across the country.  This sanction will be paid to each athlete as sum of Rs.10000 per month for the period between October to December 2019.

Khelo India Selection Criteria and Eligibility Guidelines

Selection of talented athletes is made on the basis of Khelo India Youth Games. The top performers in their priority discipline are selected and provided assistance. However primary selection to play at Khelo India Youth Games is done on the basis of application submitted. 

The eligibility guidelines are as follows-

  • Earlier only the students from schools (i.e. under 17 group) were eligible but to provide opportunity to more athletes, ministry decided to introduce a new category for college students. The age criteria for both is as follows-  
  • Candidates below the age of 17 years are eligible and can compete in under-17 category.
  • Candidates below the age of 21 can compete in under-21 category. 
  • Applicant should have great interest in sports and must be playing a particular sport.
  • Athletes from all the parts of country can register. 

Khelo India Registration Form 2021

Registration for KIYG is mainly done through online mode. However, for the last edition registration was done through both online and offline mode. For 2021, candidates have to wait a little more till the publication of notification.  For online registration, users can register for KIYG- 2021 as an athlete, coach, or technical Officer. Step 1: Visit the official portal – Users have to start by visiting the official website of Khelo India i.e. https://nsrs.kheloindia.gov.in/Login

Step 2: Registration page open – Logging to the official portal, the user registration page will appear.

Step 3: Click the relevant option – For athlete registration, users have to click on “Athlete” option.

Step 4: Fill the details – The first stage of registration i.e. Registration form will open. Fill all the personal details in the space provided. Upload the scanned photograph, agree to the terms and conditions and finally click on “Create Profile” option.

Step 5: Second page appear – On second page of the registration form, fill educational, documentation and bank account details in the respective field. Click on continue button.

Step 6: Third page appear – On this page, fill the Kitting details and contact information. Click on “Submit” button.

Step 7: Athlete Dashboardkhelo india application form Appear – On final submission, athlete dashboard will appear. It will show all the information provided by the athelete while creating the profile. In case of any mistake, athletes can make necessary changes by logging in with the user id and password. User id and password should be kept safe for further logins.

  • Recent passport-sized photograph.

  • Identity proof- Aadhaar card/ voter id/ passport
